Victoria's Secret

what's Victoria's secret? why do women flock to this store to spend $20 dollars on underwear that is equivalent to a piece of yarn? i have a hunch that women choose to spend their money on these undergarments because of the images they see; beautiful girls in lacy undies. who doesn't want to look like a Victoria's secret model? girls are being shown images of what the ideal woman looks like. they buy them maybe because they want to look like the models; because thats what they think the ideal is.

pucker up!!!

what does you're lipstick shape say about you?? apparently, the way you apply your lipstick and its shape tells a lot about your personality. ridiculous

a few photos

so far most of my photos have been self portraits, but i expect to be taking pictures of other girls and really expanding with this project.
i feel that this photo shows how girls will change themselves to who they want [and/or] think they should look like.

(I intend to elaborate more with these photos)

1] what is the series about? the series is called thin by lauren greenfield. thin is about girls with eating disorders.
2] how did it come about? this series came about when lauren greenfield wanted to document girls with eating disorders and show their struggle with their disorder; how it changes them.
3] is it journalistic or artistic? it is journalistic because it is telling a story about these young women and their lives.
4] does any part of the series make you feel 'uncomfortable'? it makes me feel uncomfortable looking at these young women withering away to nothing; their desire to be this is almost sickening.
5] how might you improve the series? show the girls getting over their disorder and their struggle to get their lives back on track. i think that it would bring hope to the series; that the disorder can be overcome.
6] can you compare this event/story to any similar event in your own life? i know a girl who has always been self conscious about her weight. ive watched her over the years torture herself diets and fasting. it was very painful for her. she has overcome her disorder since.

Project Ideasss

I'm a little late posting my vanguard project ideas; i had some troubles with BLOGGER. but better late than never, i suppose. i have a few ideas that are all pretty similar, but I'm still pretty indecisive with which direction i want to go with this project.

1] i want to do something like Lauren greenfield (girl culture/ thin)i want to show the life of a girl; what its like to be in our world- clothes, make up, boys, and the constant drama. i also want to show how the media affects people; what we feel we SHOULD look like. some how i think i can combine these two into something.
2] i want to try this because it is something that interests me. these ideas also apply to me and my life. i see girls my age everyday trying to change themselves to look like the women they see on t.v.
3] i will accomplish this by photographing my point of view of girl culture. i intend to show how women are portrayed in the media vs. women in their normal, everyday lives. some of us spend ridiculous amounts of time and money on trying to make ourselves as attractive as what we are compared to by the media. it is almost a competition. in real life we are not picture perfect; air-brushed into a mans ideal vision of a woman. this series will mostly be self portraits but i will have additional subjects throughout. again this is my point of view.
4] i will probably need some assistance with pulling this whole project together. seeing as my idea is still a little sketchy, i will defiantly need some guidance.
5]something like this..
